Testing and Inspection
Pre-paint, in-process and post-paint inspection and testing by in-house NACE and Icorr inspectors, using UKAS-calibrated equipment.
Inspection and Testing at Every Stage
Wicked Coatings carries out inspection and testing before, during and after painting, so every coating system is verified at each stage rather than only checked at the end. Our in-house NACE and Icorr qualified inspectors use UKAS-calibrated equipment throughout, and our supervisors, blasters and painters are ICATS qualified, and every result is recorded and reported.
Not every job needs the full programme. These are examples of the checks we can carry out when a specification or client requests them, all completed in accordance with the instructed ISO standards. Before painting we can monitor environmental conditions, salt-test the blast media, blot-test the compressed air, run dust tests and measure the blast profile using Testex replica tape and comparator gauges, with Bresle testing for soluble salts after blasting. During painting we take wet film thickness readings and continue to monitor conditions. After painting we check dry film thickness, test adhesion by dolly pull-off or cross-cut, confirm cure with the double rub test and take gloss readings. Full reporting is available to nuclear and other demanding sector standards.
What We Inspect and Test
Examples of the inspection and testing we can carry out on request, at any stage from surface preparation through to the cured finish, all in accordance with the instructed ISO standards.
-
thermostat Environmental Monitoring Air and surface temperature, humidity and dew point are monitored before and during painting to confirm conditions are within specification.
-
grain Blast Media & Air Quality Salt testing of blast media, blot tests on compressed air and dust tests confirm the prepared surface is clean before any coating is applied.
-
straighten Blast Profile & Salts Blast profile is measured with Testex replica tape and comparator gauges, and Bresle testing checks for soluble salts after blasting.
-
layers Film Thickness Wet film thickness readings during application and dry film thickness readings after cure confirm the coating meets the specified build.
-
grid_on Adhesion & Cure Adhesion is tested by dolly pull-off or cross-cut method, with the double rub test confirming full cure and gloss readings verifying the finish.
-
description Calibrated Reporting All tests use UKAS-calibrated equipment and are fully reported, with documentation compliant to nuclear and other demanding sector standards.
From Blast Room to Signed-Off Report
Where a specification calls for it, each stage follows a repeatable inspection workflow that ties every result back to the batch it represents.

STEP 01
Pre-Paint Checks
Environmental conditions, blast media, compressed air and dust levels are checked before surface preparation begins.

STEP 02
Blast Profile Verified
Profile is measured with Testex tape and comparator gauges, and Bresle testing confirms the surface is free of soluble salts.
