Wicked Carbon Dipping & Custom Painting on Yamaha M1

Back to listing

It’s not often that you get to work on a project as sweet as this one.

Especially when the end goal is to convert a Yamaha R1 into a true M1 replica, in time to be ridden in style to the Isle of Man TT 2013.

Here’s some background.

The team over at Jesters Trick Bits were recently approached by a customer who challenged them to help plan and execute the build of a Yamaha M1 using a supplied 2006 R1. No mean feat by anyones standards, especially with the imposing deadline set as the legendary TT!

Luckily, Nick at Jesters had the skill and industry experience to know exactly how to tackle such a project and was shrewd enough to know that there could only be one choice for the carbon dipping and custom paint work section of the job! Wicked Coatings was only too happy to oblige…

So with the M1 bodywork ordered, and all necessary parts sourced from a portugese company called Lacomoto, the project was underway! The next step was to get the bike into the workshop where it could be stripped and prepared for the makeover of its life.

Once the parts had arrived in stock for fitting and the bike had been dropped to Racefit for pipe work to be made up, it was time to get into the real meat of the project – removing the factory bodywork, installing parts and fitting the Lacomoto bodykit, all of which went smoothly.

It was now time for Wicked Coatings to step up and show what we could do.

Next step: Carbon dipping &  custom painting the bike.

Here was our to-do list:

2 x rear sets
Generator rotor cover
Pick up rotor cover
Clutch cover inc the cable protector
Front sprocket cover
Both wheels
Rear brake reservoir cap
Rossi Replica Paintwork
Full Yamaha Fiat Rep

With the bike safely delivered to our workshop, we got to work on the carbon dipping element of the job first and then moved on to the full paint job – an absolute joy to work on.

It was then time to get the bike back to Jesters for the final fit and check up. With a new alarm system installed and indicator lights and registration plate fitted, the bike had reached the end of its incredible transformation and was ready to be returned to the customer.

A huge amount of planning, organisation and skill went into this project and it is testament to all involved that the job was completed in time for this awesome machine to make it over to the Isle of Man TT for the kind of admiration that it deserves.

Another great carbon dipping and custom paint work project completed. A massive thanks to all involved – it was definitely one to remember. Read a testimonial  for the work we did from Nick at Jesters.

Don’t forget to come and visit Wicked Coatings at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this July. We have a lot to show off at the moment so come and say hello and we can talk you through our latest hydrographics projects.
